2006/2007 Energy Tax Credit
August 8, 2005, President Bush signed the Energy Policy Act, containing provisions that
will help families save money and energy by implementing home conservation measures.
Adding insulation is one of those measures.
To qualify, the project must meet or exceed the 2000 International Energy Conservation
Code (IECC) and amendments. A Manufacturer’s Certificate is also required. It is
downloadable from the Advanced Fiber Technology website at (
www.advancedfiber.com ).
The tax credit is 10% up to $500. Installation costs are not included. This applies to tax
years 2006 and 2007. For tax purposes, save your material receipt and Manufacturer’s
Certification statement. The IRS has provided guidance for consumers on IRS Notice 2006-26.
If you have any additional questions, please contact a tax advisor.
Contractors only need to provide the homeowner a copy of the Manufacturer’s Certificate
and an invoice with the cost of material shown separately.
